How to Apply for a Post in Aligarh Muslim University - AMU

The official website that usually announces the vacancies in Aligarh Muslim University is http://www.amuregistrar.com/. The website is not very user friendly hence many people find it difficult to navigate and find the resources they are looking for.

      must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET)  conducted

      SLET/SET;

      (iii) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-clauses (i)  and 
      (ii)  above,  candidates, who are or have been awarded  a  Ph.D. 
      degree  in  accordance  with the  University  Grants  Commission 
      (Minimum  Standards  and Procedure for Award  of  Ph.D.  degree) 
      Regulations, 2009 shall be exempted from the requirement of  the 
      minimum  eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET  for  recruitment 
      and  appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent  positions 
      in Universities/ Colleges/ Institutions;

      (iv)   NET/SLET/SET shall also not be required for such  Masters 
      Programmes   in  disciplines  for  which  NET/SLET/SET  is   not 
      conducted.

      IMPORTANT  NOTE  :  1. Those who have  applied  against  earlier 
      advertisement  will  have to apply a fresh with  all  necessasry 
      documents  and application Fee. Their earlier applications  will 
      not be entertained.

      2.   Applications received late or without necessary  supporting 
      documents,   Degree/Certificates/  Marksheets  and    experience

      4.  A  relaxation of 5% may be provided from 55% to 50%  of  the 
      marks to the Ph.D. degree holders who have passed their Master's 
      degree prior  to 19th September, 1991.              

      5.  Relevant grade which is regarded as equivalent of 55%  where 
      the  grading system is followed by recognised  University  shall 
      also be considered eligible.       

      6.   Only such persons may apply for reserved posts  who  suffer 
      from  not  less than 40% of relevant  disability  i.e.  visually 
      handicapped  (VH), Hearing Handicapped (HH)  and  Orthopedically 
      Handicapped (OH) for which they will have to submit a Disability 
      Certificate Issued by the Competent Authority on the  prescribed

About AMU Aligarh

The establishment of Mohammedan Anglo Oriental (MAO) College in 1875 marks one of the most important events in the educational and social history of modern India. Its establishment is considered as the first significant response of the Indian Muslims to the challenges of post 1857 era. It was an important catalyst in a process of social change among Muslims. "An epoch in the social progress of India" - with these words on his lips Lord Lytton laid the foundation stone of the Mohammadan Anglo Oriental College on January 8, 1877. Nearly eight years later, when the noted Orientalist Sir Hamilton Gibb looked back at the history of Muslim Transition from the medieval to the modern way of life, he characterized this College as "the first modernist institution in Islam".

Affiliation

The M.A.O. College was originally affiliated with Calcutta University, and was transferred to the Allahabad University in 1885.It was also around this time that a movement began to have it develop into a university to stand on its own. In 1920, the Act of Indian Legislative Council elevated the Mohammedan Anglo Oriental College to the status of a Central University and it became the principal Muslim Institution in India. Section 2(1) of the AMU Act says the university means the "the educational institution of their choice established by the Muslims of India".

AMU occupies an exalted position among Indian Universities and its contribution to nation building is in no way inferior to the best among the lot. AMU is perhaps the only University in the country, which has high schools in its domain. It has as many as five high schools including one for the visually handicapped, and two senior secondary schools for boys and girls. With more than 30000, students, about 1400 teachers and some 6000 non-teaching staff on its rolls, it has 12 faculties comprising a wide spectrum of academic disciplines (95 departments, 5 institution and 13 centres) and 18 halls of residence with 73 hostels. The University offers 325 courses.

College of Engineering and Technology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Dr.Ziauddin Dental College, Institute of Opthalmology and Food Craft Institute, Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Centre of Advance Study in History, Centre of West Asian Studies, Centre of Wildlife, Academic Staff College, Women's College, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College, University Polytechnic for boys and girls, separately and Computer Centre. The University has a campus spread over 467.6 hectares of land.

International Character

It attracts students from all over the world, especially Africa, West Asia and South East Asia. The language taught here includes English, Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Kashmiri, French, Turkish, German and Russian. ALIGARH :July 03

The Department of Statistics and Operation Research, Aligarh Muslim University organized a week long Workshop. Prof. Arunima Lal, Dean, Faculty of Science

inaugurated the workshop.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Prof. M. Masood Khalid, Chairman of the Department said that without statistics and operation research no discipline could move forward. Former Chairman of the Department, Prof. Sanaullah Khan urged the participants to use statistics with other disciplines to get better results in their research outcome. He said the use of statistics is essential to upgrade the various facets of the society. Thirty participants from various departments of studies are attending the workshop.

The Training and Placement Office (General), Aligarh Muslim University organized the campus placement of GE CAPITAL (a leading MNC) for graduates (Non Technical)

of the University.

Mr. Saad Hameed, Training and Placement Officer (General) said that 13 students got the Job offer after a rigorous recruitment process. The students will be placed in GE CAPITAL, Gurgaon which looked forward for a long term association with AMU for various corporate meets and social events, added Mr. Hameed.

The Centre for Distance Education, Aligarh Muslim University has established four more Study Centres in different parts of the country.

The Director, Distance Education Centre, Dr. Nafees Ahmad Ansari said that the AMU Vice Chancellor, Lt. General Zameer Uddin Shah has granted approval for the establishment of these centres at Islamia High School, Sheikhpura, Distt. Sheikhpura, Bihar, Sir Syed Educational Institute, Near Railway Station, Qazigund, Anantnag, J&K, Career Park, Parry Pora, Opposite Chinar Colony, Airport Road, Srinagar, J&K and Sir Syed Muslim Institute of Education, Behrote, Rajouri, J&K. The centre has already established eighteen centres in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr. Ansari said that the approval has been given without any financial commitment on the part of the University and that these centres will function under the purview of the Centre for Distance Education. The Distance Education Centre will offer graduate and undergraduate courses at these Centres.

ALIGARH :June 30

The Vice Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University has ordered to place Dr. Ali Adil Mahmud, JR-1, MS (General Surgery) under suspension forthwith from

the University rolls pending enquiry and University and its maintained institutions have also been placed out of bound in the larger interest of the University.

An office notification issued by the University Proctor, Dr. Khursheed A. Khan said that as per reports the above mentioned student is prima-facie guilty of negligence that resulted in the tragic death of Mr. Pervez Ali, LDC, Department of Land & Gardens that subsequently led to commotion and damage to University Property on June 16, 2012. An FIR in this regard was also filed in the Civil Lines Police Station. The Vice Chancellor taking serious note of this incident constituted an Enquiry Committee which submitted its report on June 18, 2012 saying that the aforementioned student has prima-facie been observed to be guilty of acts of indiscipline and misconduct.

The notification further said that it was axiomatic from the circumstances that the act and actions of Dr. Ali Adil Mahmud were contrary to institutional behavior and violation of law of the land, thus in this conspectus while taking into account the above facts, circumstances and reports Dr. Mahmud was found prima-facie guilty of gross misconduct and indiscipline punishable under Part II Rule 4 (i), (xxiii) and (xxviii), of Aligarh Muslim University Students Conduct and Discipline Rules 1985.

ALIGARH :June 28

The students of Aligarh Muslim University have secured a place into the Guinness Book of World Records for their alma mater by creating the world?s largest paper envelope. The Guinness World Records has issued a certificate to the Aligarh Muslim University to this effect.

The 36ft x 24ft envelop was made by a group of more than two dozen students from different faculties. It also carried a message of world peace and brotherhood signed by more than ten thousand students and faculty members of the University. It was addressed to the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping and had a beautiful stamp of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan on it.

The messages urged the people to make the world a corruption free and peaceful place. "Let there be no oppression, we want peace, equality, and brotherhood in the world", read the tagline mentioned on envelop.

The official witnesses of the event, Prof. Mukhtar Ahmad, Prof. Razaullah Khan and Dr. F. S. Sheerani have congratulated the students on the first ever entry of the historical university into the Guinness World Records. The students? team leader, Syed Nabeel Mehdi said, "Credit goes to our team that worked really hard and put their sincere efforts. It required extreme care, neatness and delicacy to manufacture such a massive envelope with paper, which we would recycle soon". He said it was just a beginning and in a new direction.

AMU Public Relations Officer, Dr. Rahat Abrar said, "The students have sent a sincere message to the world. This is what Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of this university, dreamt of ? a peaceful and united world."

June 27: The Aligarh Muslim University has won the Second Sir Syed Memorial Open District Cricket Tournament-2012 defeating Himsagar Cricket Club by 7 wickets at Willingdon Cricket Pavilion here today.

Himsagar Cricket Club won the toss and decided to bat first. It scored 107 runs at the loss of 8 wicket in 20 overs. Sultan scored 53 runs and Vipin and Ali took two wickets each.

In reply, AMU scored 110 runs at the loss of 3 wickets in 16.3 overs and won the match by 7 wickets. Yasir and Vipin scored 65 and 35 runs respectively. Man of the Match and man of the Tournament awards were given to Yasir Kaleem of AMU.

The students of Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University have succeeded in developing a new mechanism, which will left the side stand of two wheelers from service position to free position without application of manual effort.

The final year undergraduate students of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Shivang Verma, Vidushi Singh and Yamini Agrawal under the guidance of Dr. Mohammed Ali, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering developed the mechanism lessening the use of human efforts. Since the manual operation is eliminated, the uncertainty involved in the operation is also eliminated, thus, bringing down the chances of accidents due to side stand.

This mechanism, named 'Self Retrieving Side Stand (SRS) System' is made with the help of springs and levers and works when the rider actuates key in its lock and applies clutch. Dr. Md. Kalimuddin Ahmad, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, Aligarh Muslim University has been invited for academic interaction at the Department of Techno-mathematics of the University of Bremen, Germany during

July 1-15, 2012. During this period, he will discuss a joint research project to be carried out by the academics of the Aligarh Muslim University and the University of Bremen, Germany.

The visit of Dr. Kalimuddin is sponsored by the Alexander Von Humboldt foundation of Germany and an outcome of recently concluded networking conference of research alumni of Germany's leading research institutions held in Gurgaon.

Dr. Ahmad is a former DAAD fellow of Germany and actively engaged in research projects with his German counterparts.

Seven final year students of B. Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) 2012 batch of Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim

University have been selected by Public Sector giant Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) as Probationary Engineer.

BEL executives visited the AMU campus on June 23, 2012 and had a long interaction with teachers and mentors. After rigorous evaluation, 12 graduates were shortlisted in the first round.

Dr. Rehan A. Khan, Associate Professor in the department of Civil Engineering and Acting Training and Placement Officer, ZHCET, AMU said that three students have been offered direct placement while four are on the waiting list. The selected students will get a starting package of more than 6.0 lakh rupees per annum. Further, the Training and Placement Officer (General), Mr. Saad Hameed said that eight students of M. Dr. Shah Alam, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, Aligarh Muslim University has been nominated Vice President of Indian Academy of Applied Psychology by its Executive Council for a period of two years in its Annual General Body Meeting held at Cochin. IAAP is the largest and oldest single body of psychologists in the sub-continent.

The National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) has awarded its prestigious life-time Fellowship to Dr. Mujeebur Rahman Khan, Plant Protection (Plant Pathology & Nematology), Aligarh Muslim University. In order to recognize contributions of researchers and scientists from India and abroad in the field of agriculture and Allied Sciences every year and to develop a strong base of highly specialized research, the academy selects 15-20 Indian and foreign scientists to award its prestigious fellowship on its Foundation Day.

Dr. Khan was awarded by Dr. R. B. Singh, President, NAAS and Dr. S. Ayyappan, DG-ICAR in a glittering function at New Delhi. He is the seventh nematologist of the country to receive the honour since inception of NAAS.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Khan emphasized the need of using environmentally safe materials in crop production system, and highlighted the benefits of organic farming and integrated pest management. He further emphasized that the countries like India where average farm size is very small, low input sustainable agriculture (LISA) suited well.

He said that the farmers should incorporate biofertilizers and biopesticides to improve the crop productivity and market value of the produce. He also highlighted the damages to crops due to air pollution emanating from coal fired industries, and suggested that crop plants having soft and expanded leaves like cucurbits and brassicas should not be grown in an area of 5-10 km radius of such industries. These industries also add CO2, which has its own implications in greenhouse related consequences. Elevated levels of CO2 and SO2 can aggravate the plant diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, nematodes etc, he added.

Dr. Mujeebur Rahman Khan has over 250 research publications and review articles and two patents (USA & India) to his credit. Further, he has contributed 7 authored/edited books published from USA, Germany and India. He has attended over 50 national and international conferences. He is a recipient of Prof. Hira Lal Chakravarty Award and Outstanding Scientist Award. Dr. Khan has spcialization in biological control of plant diseases, effect of environmental pollutants on the development of plant diseases, industrial waste utilization in crop protection and molecular characterization of species/races of pathogens. Related Picture 1. Inaugurating the Annual Hall Function of Sir Shah Sulaiman Hall, Aligarh Muslim University, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the Chief Guest, Prof. Hamid Ali Khan urged the students to participate in the extracurricular activities in order to develop a wholesome personality.

Guest of honour, Prof. Kaleem Mohammad Khan elaborated on the glorious history of the Sulaiman Hall citing the names of distinguished personalities who resided in the hall during their student life.

Another guest of honour, Prof. Muzaffar A. Siddiqui, Chairman, Department of Electronics Engineering urged the resident members of the hall to develop a gentle and attractive personality and adopt a persuasive approach as these qualities will only help them achieve higher positions in their future career and they will be the true ambassadors of rich and historical AMU culture.

Senior Hall, Tanveer Ahmad presented the annual hall report and complimented the

students who had got admission in foreign universities and those who had been offered high salary packages.

Earlier, former Provost of the Hall, Prof. Abdul Baqi said that he had made efforts to provide all facilities to the students so that they could achieve success in life.

Appreciating Prof. Baqi's efforts, the acting Provost, Dr. M. Masroor Alam said that the legacy will be continued and he would extend all support to students in achieving excellence in their studies.

Aligarh Muslim University organized a two-day Pediatric Advance Life Support Course of IAP-PALS

Aligarh : The Department of Pediatrics, J. N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a two-day Pediatric Advance Life Support Course of Indian Association of Pediatrics (IAP-PALS) for resident doctors of Pediatrics and Medicine. It is a prestigious course based on guidelines of American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association. Twenty three residents of Department of Pediatrics and one from the Department of Medicine participated in the course. The book of Pediatrics Advance Life Support and Basic Life Support was distributed to the registered candidates one month prior to the commencement of the course.

While delivering the inaugural address, Prof. M. H. Beg, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College appreciated the efforts of Prof. S. Manazir Ali, Course Coordinator, PALS and Chairman, Department of Pediatrics. He also advised the participants to acquire knowledge and bring it into practice in order to save the life and disseminate knowledge to the juniors.

Prof. S. Manazir Ali conducted the program and introduced Prof. A. K. Rawat, Director, PALS Course Bundelkhand Medical College, Sagar, MP, Dr. Piyali Bhataycharia, SGPGI, Lucknow, Dr. Anant Ketkar, MP, Dr. Ravi Adlakha, Mission Hospital Bareilly, Dr. Karan Joshi, S. S. Medical College, Rewa, MP and Dr. S. Manazir Ali from Aligarh.

Dr. A. K. Rawat presented the overview of PALS Course and informed that the certificate will be given to the candidates at the end of the course provided the candidates would have secured 84% in post test and cleared the hand on skills of Basic Life Support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. News: Athletic Club of the Aligarh Muslim University organized a summer camp for the students

Aligarh : The Athletic Club of the Aligarh Muslim University organized a summer camp for the students of AMU schools and other local schools. About 140 students participated in the camp and were given certificate of participation at a function held at the University Athletic Ground.

Dr. Adeeb Alam Khan, Member, AMU Executive Council graced the occasion as Chief Guest and distributed the certificates. President, Athletics Club, Dr. Rafiuddin welcomed the Chief Guest and the Captain of the Club proposed a vote of thank.

Mr. Hamid Ali, Coach, Athletics devoted his time and energy to organize the summer coaching camp. Presidents of various clubs, captains and coaches of the University Games Committee and a large number of students and their parents were present during the prize distribution function.
