Army Background
1. Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, born on 15th Aug 1948, is an alumnus of St. Joseph's College, Nainital, National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Army War College, Mhow and National Defence College, New Delhi.
2. The General Officer has held prestigious command, staff and instructional appointments in his unblemished career of 39 years in the Army. Before assuming the appointment of Deputy Chief of Army Staff on Oct 06, 2006, he commanded an Army Corps, comprising 50,000 troops, involved in counter insurgency operations in NE India.
3. The General Officer has served in a diplomatic assignment as Defence Attache in Saudi Arabia from 1994-1997 and travelled widely in West Asia, SE Asia, Africa and Europe.
Educational Back Ground
4. During his Army service the General Officer obtained M. Sc. in Defence Studies and Management from the Madras University in 1980 and M. Phil. from Indore University in 1993.
Experience in Educational Fields
5. He intended entering the field of education after his career in the Army and draw on his experience in the following fields connected with education:
a. Training and educating cadets at Officers Training Academy, Chennai from 1972-1974.
b. Member of the faculty of Studies at Army War College, Mhow in 1996.
c. Chairman of the Board of Governors of Sainik School, Purulia, West Bengal from 2003-2005.
d. Chairman of the Management Committee of the Army Institute of Management, Kolkata from 2004-2005.
e. President, Executive Council of Centre for Land Warfare Studies 2006-2007.
General
6. The General is a keen sportsman and rider. He has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal and Vishist Seva Medal for services to the country.
